You could check keywordspy.com or google keywords for example. These keywords, when used correctly, will make lots of traffic that is unstopable. Pick keywords with a lot of traffic.
Next thing is to write your article for the search engines as well as for real readers. What I mean is that you need to make sure to include your new keywords conviently within your newly composed and interesting article. You are writing to get people to click to your site, but you want your article to place high in search results also.
Now That you have a finished article you will need to get it seen. There are a lot of ways of article submission and even more article submission sites. So which ones do you use? I Use ezinearticles.com for about 90% of the articles I create. This is because they are highly indexed in google and other SE’s. I can write website traffic for years off of the same article.
You dont need to use that article directory per say, but I would recommend using a site with a high PR or page rank. This will give you the most traffic form search engines as well as better ranking back links to your site.
